The National Association of Black Social Workers
The National Association of Black Social Workers is the nation’s oldest and largest professional organization of black social workers dedicated to enhancing the quality of life and empowerment of people of African ancestry through advocacy, delivery of human services and research.
The National Association of Black Social Workers was founded in May, 1968, in San Francisco. The organization was formed in response to issues related to providing human services in the Black community, educating social workers for effective service in the Black community, and providing opportunities for participation of Black social workers in the social welfare arena. Membership in The National Association of Black Social Workers is open to Black people working in human services and is not predicated upon degree or experience. There are over one hundred chapters in the United States in addition to chapters in the Bahamas, Canada, England.
