
Judge Barrington Daniels Parker, Jr. was appointed to the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York by President Clinton. He was appointed on September 19, 1994. He was elevated to the Second Circuit in 2001. Judge Parker was born in Washington, D.C. to Marjorie Hollman Parker and Barrington Daniels Parker, Sr. Judge Parker's mother was, for many years, a professor in the D.C. public schools. She is a scholar and author who has held a variety of civic and charitable positions. His father was appointed to the United States District Court for the District of Columbia by President Nixon on December 19, 1969. He sat on that Court until shortly before his death in 1992. Judge Parker is married to Toni Trent Parker and has three daughters.
Mrs. Parker runs Black Books Galore, a firm that promotes African-American Children's books. Judge Parker comes from a family with a long and distinguished background in the law. Before becoming a judge, his father, Barrington Sr., practiced at his father's, George A. Parker's, law firm. George Parker founded the Robert H. Terrell School of Law in 1931, which until 1951, was a night school for African-American law students. Barrington Sr. and Barrington Jr. are the first African-American father and son appointed to the Federal Judiciary.
