
John Carr is a partner in the law firm of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett. He has represented merchant and investment banks and corporate clients on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and private equity funds. He has also provided general corporate, partnership and securities law advice. He has extensive experience in representing merchant banking clients in raising private equity funds and in their investment activities. These have included the organization of domestic leveraged buy-out funds, as well as, industry and country focused funds.
Mr. Carr has represented the Apollo Theater Foundation, Blackstone Capital Partners, BMG Music, JP Morgan Chase, H&Q Asia Pacific, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co., NBC, Provender Capital Group, Richard C. Blum & Associates, Sony Music Entertainment, TSG Capital Group, Vestar Capital Partners, and the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone.
Mr. Carr is a member of the Board of Trustees of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and formerly the Dean's Advisory Council for the School of Architecture. He is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Board of Directors of The New York City Investment Fund Manager and the Advisory Council of the New York City Outward Center.
