
Floretta Dukes McKenzie is chair and CEO of The McKenzie Group, a comprehensive education consulting firm to both public and private organizations. Dr. McKenzie has a distinguished 40-year record of service to K through 12 and higher education, including significant experience in educational research, planning, and policy analysis. Before starting the firm in 1988, Dr. McKenzie served seven years as superintendent for the District of Columbia Public Schools. She was deputy assistant secretary in the Office of School Improvement, U.S. Department of Education, from 1979 to 1981.
In this capacity, she administered 15 federal education discretionary programs and initiatives and directed the department’s efforts to improve schools in areas ranging from basic skills instruction to women's educational equity. Earlier, she was deputy superintendent of the Maryland State Department of Education. Dr. McKenzie holds a B.S. from D.C. Teachers College and an M.A. from Howard University in History. Her Ph.D. is from George Washington University in Education Administration.
