Donald V. Watkins is president of Donald V. Watkins PC and is the founder & chairman of Alamerica Bank. Watkins entered the entrepreneurial world with his purchase of a major equity stake in 1998 in Masada Oxynol, a privately-held waste-to-ethanol energy technology and development company based in Birmingham, Alabama. The Masada family of six companies is also managed by Watkins. In January 2000, Watkins successfully founded Alamerica Bank in Birmingham, a state-chartered, full-service bank with a commercial focus.
The Bank achieved the industry’s benchmark return on equity of 15% in 2005. In 2006, the return on equity averaged 20%. The Bank was ranked number 4 (out of 223 southeastern U.S. banks in its peer group) on the "Veteran Profitability All-Stars" list published in the September 2006 edition of Donnelly Penman & Partners’ Community Banking Journal. In June of 2006, the Bank’s holding company, Alamerica BancCorp, successfully launched its wholly-owned mortgage affiliate, Alamerica Mortgage Corp. Alamerica Bank was ranked number 4 in ROA nationally in its peer-group of U.S. banks in the June 2007 edition of the Independent Banker magazine.
Watkins also owns Voter News Network, an online news service for independent voters; First Highland Group, LLC, a commercial real estate development company; and The Children’s Bank, a development capital fund for entrepreneurial kids 18 years old and younger started in 2006. Watkins serves on the Board of Directors of State Mutual Insurance Company in Rome, Georgia. Watkins received his B.A. degree from Southern Illinois University in 1970 and his J.D. degree in 1973 from the University of Alabama School of Law. He is a life member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.

school teacher, shared her concerns on public education. The President shared what a typical
day in the White House looks like for him, how he does Halloween with his family, and how his
father impacted him.
