Baldwin Hills is an affluent African American community. The median family income is $157,033, making Baldwin Hills one of the wealthiest African American communities in the United States. Prior to 1965, it was known as "Pill Hill" because of the large number of doctors that live there.

After African Americans began moving into the area, especially musicians and film actors, it was given the nickname the Black Beverly Hills. It has been home to such celebrities as Ray Charles, Tina Turner, Nancy Wilson, and the late Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley.

Four Obama 2012 supporters had the chance to sit down for dinner with President Obama: Juanita from Colorado, Ken from Arizona, Casey from Minnesota and Wendi from Indiana. They all brought their stories and ideas for this campaign and our country. Juanita, a retired public school teacher, shared her concerns on public education. The President shared what a typical day in the White House looks like for him, how he does Halloween with his family, and how his father impacted him.
